Representatives from the EU and India, co-chaired by Director-General Roberto Viola of the European Commission’s DG CNECT and Secretary Krishnan of India’s MeitY, gathered under the Trade and Technology Council Working Group 1 on October 31st.
The primary focus of the meeting was to review advancements across various digital workstreams and strategize for the future, particularly in anticipation of the next Trade and Technology Council ministerial meeting scheduled for 2026. A wide range of topics were explored, encompassing semiconductors, digital public infrastructure, digital skills, artificial intelligence, high-performance and quantum computing, and IT and telecoms standardisation.

Its purpose is to collaboratively address shared trade, technology, and security challenges, fostering deeper cooperation and promoting a human-centric approach to digital transformation.
Working Group 1 specifically concentrates on digital priorities, aiming to harness the strengths of both the EU and India to cultivate advanced and trustworthy digital technologies that ultimately benefit the citizens of both regions. The partnership seeks to leverage their combined capabilities to drive innovation and ensure responsible digital development.
